When three bounty hunters all are after the same fugitive,
their code is very simple. Only one will survive and thereby
receive the bounty for capturing or killing the wanted man.
This is just such a situation, but with an added twist. The
third bounty hunter is a former samurai who was expelled
from his clan for speaking out when he shouldn’t have. Can
he beat the others to the prize and still take home the
money? Exciting and moving, this episode shows another side
of Kiichi Hogan as he continues on his quest to raise enough
money for his trip to Spain for revenge against Gonzales,
the killer of his father.

For
the first time ever, the Grand Finale of the Zato Ichi
story comes to DVD. These two episodes were written and directed
by one of Japan's most distinguished filmmakers Teshigahara
Hiroshi and elevate the Blind Swordsman from genre
hero to fine art. After 25 feature films from 1962 through 1974,
the television series lasted 4 years and helped keep alive the
legend of the blind wandering gambler/masseur with the lightning
fast sword. There were 100 episodes over the 4 seasons and while
all of them are very good to excellent, this 2 part finale
brings the series and the character to an exciting conclusion
unlike anything that ever went before or after.
Episode 99: "The Rainbow Journey" takes Ichi to the inner
chambers of a daimyo lord's concubine. A beautiful woman with a
deadly secret holds the key to a treasure chest containing 1,000
gold coins. Can Ichi survive against the political activists who
want to bring down the government with their bloody blades?
Episode 100: "The Dream Journey" intersperses Ichi's
innermost fears and desires with the harsh realities of being a
blind man who dreams only of being able to see the sun once more
before he dies. With spectacular cinematography and plenty of
dynamic swordplay, can Ichi conquer fear and defeat his most
formidable adversary?
See
Zato Ichi like never before in this stunning work of art!

DAI CHUSHINGURA
THE 47 RONIN OF AKO
One of the most exciting and realistic
versions of the story of the 47 Ronin of Ako. This powerful adaptation,
done in 2 parts is absolutely thrilling.
Using the martial arts expertise of the Japan Action Club (JAC), this
has some of the best fighting, as well as telling the story in its full
length in a manner showing more insight into what really went on during
the events leading up to, and after Lord Asano Takumi no Kami attacked
Lord Kira Kozukenosuke.
Unlike some versions which are long winded and boring, this is the real
deal.
This made for TV movie has broken new ground in the story, and must be
seen. A true credit to the journals of Japan's greatest story. The
revenge of the 47 men, who were willing to give their lives for the
honor of their clan, and to avenge their beloved Lord.
Based on the historical
novel “The Bloody Journal Of The Shinsengumi” by Shiba Ryutaro
this is the best, most complete history of that brutal group of
political assassins yet. The story is told through the eyes of
Hijikata Toshizo, the second in command, and in effect the
group’s conscience. The film TABOO was made from one of the
chapters in this novel, The Lad With Bangs. Great history, and
exciting action.
A must have!

Ooka Echizen no kami Tadasuke was born in Edo in 1677. He is famous
as a great commissioner in after ages. However, he had dark days because
of his family’s mismanagement when he was young. He led a dissipated
life for a while but his view of life started to change gradually and he
became an important figure in government. In 1712, he became the
commissioner of Ise
-Yamada
magistrate’s office, and in 1717,
he was selected as the commissioner of Minami-Machi
magistrate’s office. In most cases, the term of commissioner was 2 to 3
years but he continued to be the commissioner for 20 years. Ooka Echizen
was very humane and kind to
anybody without prejudice.
The arrival of Perry’s Black Ships rudely awakened Japan from 300 years of peaceful isolation from the world. Men set their eyes beyond Japan and began to demand change in society. Old clashed with the new, and thus began an age of turmoil. Amidst this confusion, one group remained true to the old ways and risked their lives to preserve the traditional shogunate system. Led by their charismatic captain, Kondo Isami, the SHINSENGUMI upheld the code of honor of the samurai. Tales abound of the feats of men like Kondo, Hijikata Toshizo and Okita Soji. Once again, TV Asahi brings to life the passion and glory of these men who lived during the most turbulent time in Japanese history. Full of pathos, action-packed, this is a series not to be missed by “chambara” fans.
Starring: KATORI Shingo YAMAMOTO Koji and SATO Koichi as Serizawa Kamo
The story of Japan's greatest hero, the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi is brought to life in this amazing Taiga Drama tracing him from the earliest beginnings through his most famous battles on into his later life. VENGEANCE IS SUCH A
GREAT BUSINESS (Sukedachiya Sukeroku)
This is the
final movie from Okamoto Kihachi, the filmmaker who directed
such great movies as “Sword Of Doom”, “Kill”, and “Red
Lion”. With an equal mix of violence and humor he has forged
a career that spanned over 4 decades and created some of the
most memorable films to ever come out of Japan. This is no
exception, and the hand of a master is evident in his
treatment of this highly entertaining story.
In a world where vendettas are officially sanctioned, the
people sometimes needed help in carrying out their
vengeance. Sanada Hiroyuki stars as Sukeroku the Helper, a
‘cool and rambling yakuza’ that has made a business out of
helping victims carry out their revenge. When he returns to
his hometown to pay a visit to his mother’s grave he meets a
deadly ronin who carries a secret which eventually leads him
into a vendetta of his own. With terrific performances by
Sanada and Nakadai Tatsuya as the mysterious old ronin, this
film brings back the golden era of Japanese cinema!
